Arnold Machin O.B.E was a sculptor, artist and stamp and coin designer. Arnold Machin's design for an effigy of the Queen was approved by her in 1966 to be used on what came to be known as the " Machin series " of British definitive postage stamps. The effigy of the Queen on British coins was replaced in 1984 by the work of another sculptor, however the effigy on the Machin stamps has never been replaced and attempts to replace the Machin effigy were rejected by the Queen herself.
